Response time

Recent studies have shown that the response time of the computer has a profound effect on productivity (see Figure 2) [reference 12]. There is an dramatic increase in the productivity of the CRT operator for computer systems that can respond in less than one second. Apparently, humans have two types of memory: short term and long term. Studies have concluded that the increase in productivity can be attributed to the CRT operator's use of short term human memory rather than long term human memory. A human can recall thoughts in short term memory faster than in long term memory. The effect of response time in conjunction with Grosch's law emphasizes the selection of the most powerful computer that can be afforded in a cost category.
