To allow any information source to interoperate with the ExamFolder hardware and software, two open system technologies are used:

• the Network File System
• the X Window System

Network File System(NFS)

While the ExamFolder File Server is just another node on the network (see Figure 1), the NFS technology allows the Server to appear as a locally attached disk on any other computer (see Figure 2).
